How Can Your Business Save Water ?

The following comments are intended to help you identify where you might save water within your business. It is equally appropriate to any organisation such as educational campuses, barracks, technology and science parks, industry, commercial and office type businesses.

Managing Water Saving

Know your water consumption - Is your water consumption changing according to your processes. Does / should your consumption fall to zero at weekends and bank holidays?

Make someone responsible for water - If a single person in the company has overall responsibility for water use and disposal and is aware of the process and domestic requirements of a particular site, then opportunities for water savings can be more readily identified.

Identify where your water is being used - does the amount of water you buy fit with the prospective water use within your various commercial and domestic processes.

Know the difference between leakage and wastage - Leakage is water that is generally lost below ground and is not usually seen. Wastage is water lost through bad practice, poor and/or lack of control; it can usually be seen and is easier to deal with than leakage

Commission an external water audit - There are a number of utility cost control companies that include water consumption as a specialism. They can take an independent view of your water use and can draw on previous experience.
