| The traditional
method of Iron and Manganese removal involves
chemical addition, in private water supplies
this can be undesirable and lead to several
operational problems.
However removal of these
parameters can be done through the apparent
adsorption of the elements onto manganese
dioxide.

The efficiency of this process
is dependent on the oxidation state of the
iron and manganese, therefore it may be necessary
for an aeration process to be incorporated
to ensure optimum removal.
The process is also
pH dependent and there may be the need for
removal of any carbon dioxide, and associated
carbonic acid, within the water source to
be removed to facilitate the final removal.
Aeration can be utilised for this process.
